The first time, Khanh "borrowed" a motorbike from Mr. Le Van Tan in Tam Hop commune and pawned it to Mr. Nguyen Van Lap, residing in Nghia Xuan commune, for 3.6 million VND to use for his own expenses.
The second time Khanh and Son borrowed a motorbike from Mr. Pham Quoc Khanh, also in Tam Hop commune, and then pawned it to the motel owner where Khanh and Son rented a room for 2 million VND. After 1 day of pawning, Khanh and Son asked Mr. Doan Van Huan to go to the motel to redeem it and pawn it elsewhere.
After getting the car, Khanh and Son pawned it to Mr. Tran Van Lap (residing in Nghia Thai commune - Tan Ky) for 5 million VND, then Son gave Huan 2 million VND to pay Hung (the owner of the motel that Son and Khanh had previously pawned), Khanh and Son spent the rest.
After about 3 days, Khanh and Son borrowed 5 million VND from Mr. Truong Nhat Anh in Nghia Xuan commune to pay Mr. Lap to redeem the car.
After redeeming the car, Khanh asked Pham Hong Minh, a resident of Nghia Xuan commune, to help him find a place to pawn the car. Minh called Pham Van Tan, a resident of Tam Hop, and Tan called Tran Van Hoai to pawn it for 10 million VND. Khanh paid 5 million VND to Truong Nhat Anh, 2 million VND to Minh and Tan, and Khanh kept the rest for personal use.
Just like that, Khanh pawned it, redeemed it, and then continued to pawn it to Ms. Pham Thanh Minh for 10 million VND, but when she knew that this car was criminal property, Ms. Minh handed it over to the police.
The third time Khanh and Son went to Minh Hop commune to play, Khanh borrowed a motorbike from Doan Van Huan (residing in Hung Linh commune - Hung Nguyen) and pawned it to Truong Thi Nhu in Tho Hop for 2 million VND, then redeemed it and went to Chau Quang commune to pawn it for 4 million VND to Cao Xuan Thap.
After receiving the complaint from the victims, the Quy Hop police investigation agency began the investigation. At the investigation agency, Khanh and Son confessed to their crime of borrowing someone else's car to pawn for personal use.
The Criminal Proceedings Valuation Council of the People's Committee of Quy Hop district concluded that the total value of the 3 cars that Khanh and Son borrowed and mortgaged was 63 million VND.
The People's Court sentenced defendant Do Hung Son to 21 months in prison for "Abuse of trust to appropriate property" and sentenced defendant Thai Van Khanh to 30 months in prison, forcing defendant Khanh to pay civil compensation to the victim of 15 million VND.
