More than 500 players participated in the 2013 National Youth Chess Tournament

On July 13, the 2013 National Youth Chess Championship for the Dragon Capital Cup opened in Da Lat city (Lam Dong).

The tournament is organized by the Vietnam Chess Federation in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong.

More than 500 athletes (aged 7-20) from 29 delegations from provinces and cities across the country participated in the tournament.

Athletes compete in 3 categories: traditional chess, rapid chess, blitz chess, individual men's and women's and team men's and women's (according to each age group). The competition format is Swiss system with 9 rounds, drawn using Swiss-manager program.

According to the Organizing Committee, this year’s tournament brings together the country’s strongest athletes and has the largest number of participants in previous seasons. This is an opportunity to select the best players to represent Vietnam in chess to participate in youth tournaments in the region, continent and the world in 2014.

After the Opening Ceremony, the players played the first round of the traditional chess event. The traditional chess event is expected to end on July 19 and the awards will be presented. Immediately after that, the players will compete in the rapid chess and blitz chess events, which will last until July 22./.
