Over 8,000 hectares of rice fields are infected with rice blast disease.

(Baonghean.vn) - According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development: As of April 18, 2015, Nghe An province had approximately 8,881 hectares of rice infected with rice blast disease, of which more than 1,105 hectares were severely infected.

Besides rice blast disease, brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper are also causing damage to 163 hectares of rice in the tillering-heading stage in Ky Son, Anh Son, and Hung Nguyen districts; bacterial blight is affecting 3,892 hectares in most districts of the province; bacterial leaf blight is affecting over 191 hectares of rice in the heading to flowering stage in Quy Hop, Nghi Loc, Vinh City, and Hoang Mai town; rats are damaging 1,011 hectares of rice in the heading-flowering stage in Nghi Loc, Dien Chau, Yen Thanh, Nam Dan districts and Vinh City. Other pests such as locusts, armyworms, small leaf rollers, and stem borers are causing localized damage.
