The cause of the recall was determined to be a software issue that could prevent the vehicle from stalling.
The electronic parking brake (EPB) operates immediately after it is activated, after the ignition switch is turned off. In the event of a malfunction of the EPB system, the vehicle may roll away even though it is in park.
To date, Honda has not received any reports of accidents or injuries related to this defect.
The Japanese automaker will send notices about the recall to each customer whose vehicle is affected in early November and will have authorized Honda dealers check and update the software completely free of charge.
Honda's vehicle recall comes just one day after Japanese company Toyota announced a recall of 92,000 Prius vehicles in the US./.
