The new Honda Vision: from design to technology.

Honda has refreshed its popular scooter model with a more compact and sharper design, along with the eSP engine, which is being applied to the 110cc version for the first time.

Introducing the new Vision, named Happy Vision, Honda has upgraded its popular scooter model from design to engine. A more eye-catching and stylish look, a smooth engine, and a feminine appeal are what the Happy Vision showcases on the streets.

Honda doesn't change the design of individual models but rather a series of products each year. It's very clear that the rear light cluster of the previous Vision was similar to that of the PCX. In early 2014, the PCX changed its headlight design, and now the new Vision is following suit. The two turn signals are integrated into the taillight, creating a robust, sporty look.

In addition, the side profile looks smoother thanks to the lines that extend from front to back, rather than creating somewhat bulky sections like the previous version. The fairing is narrower horizontally, giving it a more streamlined feel. The weight has been reduced by 3 kg thanks to the new tubular frame.

The front turn signals have a sharp design. At first glance, the new Vision even adopts a sporty style similar to the Luvias, though it still retains a somewhat neutral feel, not as completely unconventional as Yamaha's model. Looking at the side profile, the Vision resembles a smaller SH, especially from the front of the seat towards the rear, though it is significantly smaller than the SH.

Besides the redesigned exterior, the new Vision engine is the second notable feature that the Japanese automaker has high expectations for. For the first time, eSP technology is applied to a 110cc engine, previously only used in 125cc models like the SH, SH Mode, or Air Blade.

Specifically, the 110cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine features electronic fuel injection and a compression ratio of 9.5:1. It produces 8.9 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 9.27 Nm at 5,500 rpm.

Meanwhile, the previous Vision model also had a compression ratio of 9.5:1, but lower maximum power and torque, achieved at a lower engine speed. Specifically, it produced 8.5 horsepower at 8,000 rpm and 8.9 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. Will the slight upgrades in engine power and eSP technology transform the new Vision's performance?

The sleek body and new seat height of 750 mm, a 10 mm reduction from the previous version, make it much easier for riders to control, especially for shorter female riders. Along with the eSP engine comes Idling Stop technology, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stopped for more than 3 seconds, and restarts with a slight twist of the throttle.

Therefore, the redesigned instrument cluster is more balanced and includes an Idling Stop light (shaped like the letter A). For those familiar with the old Vision, this seems like a novel feature usually only seen in models from the Air Blade segment and above, not in a budget-friendly model like the Vision.

The engine on the old Vision wasn't highly regarded for its performance, and even with the replacement with the eSP engine in this version, the scooter isn't significantly more powerful. The main improvements are in engine speed and top speed. Perhaps fuel efficiency is what Honda is most concerned about; according to the company, the Vision is the most fuel-efficient model in its segment.

Smoothness is the most general description of its handling. At low speeds from a standstill, the bike moves forward slowly, even at full throttle. Contrary to its sporty new look, the Vision's engine seems more suited to a gentle, demure woman than a more assertive one.

However, once it gains speed and momentum, the bike performs significantly better in terms of acceleration and deceleration, both sudden and sudden. The combi brake system is suitable for city driving. Conversely, the small 80 mm front and 90 mm rear tires, along with the short wheelbase, make the Vision more suitable for riders who prefer a leisurely riding style.

While its performance is only moderately good, the Vision excels in practicality. The wider footrest makes it easier to sit and hang items on the front hook, and the storage compartment can hold a full-face helmet or two half-helmets along with some other personal items. The electric side stand is safe, as the engine can only start when the stand is fully retracted, and the new ignition lock integrates a button to open the storage compartment.

The new Honda Vision comes in two versions: Elegant and Fashionable, priced at 30 million VND.

Launched in 2011 to replace the Click, the Vision, along with the Lead, currently brings in the second highest sales for Honda after the Air Blade. To date, Vision's cumulative sales exceed 557,000 units, making it a direct competitor to the Yamaha Nozza.
