Unified Regulations for National Excellent Student Selection Exam
The Ministry of Education and Training issued a document consolidating the Regulations on national excellent student selection exams.
According to the Regulations, every year, the Ministry of Education and Training organizes two exams: the national exam to select excellent high school students and the exam to select high school students for national teams to participate in international and regional Olympic competitions.
ForExcellent student examNationally, only organize exams for subjects with at least 5 registered units.
The Computer Science exam is in the form of computer programming; the other subjects are in the form of written exams; Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have additional practical exams, and Foreign Languages have additional oral exams.
The exam content is within the scope of the General Education Program issued by the Ministry of Education and Training and the teaching content of specialized subjects in specialized high schools is guided by the Ministry of Education and Training.

National Excellent Student CompetitionThere are 2 exam sessions for Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, IT and Foreign Languages; there is 1 exam session for Literature, History, Geography. Physics, Chemistry, Biology may have 1 additional practical exam session. The time for the written exam and the IT exam is 180 minutes.
Exam time for practical exams for Physics, Chemistry, Biology and speaking exams for Foreign Languages: follow the annual National Excellent Student Selection Exam Guidelines of the Ministry of Education and Training.
Olympic team selection testThere are 2 exam sessions for each subject. Physics, Chemistry and Biology have 1 additional practical exam session.
Exam time for Information Technology is 300 minutes/session, Math is 270 minutes/session, Biology is 180 minutes essay, 60 minutes multiple choice/session, the remaining subjects are 240 minutes/session.
Exam time for practical exams for Physics, Chemistry and Biology: follow the annual exam organization instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.
The exam schedule is set by the Ministry of Education and Training in the School Year Time Plan. The exam schedule for the reserve exam is announced by the Ministry of Education and Training immediately after the decision to take the reserve exam is made.
About the exam venue:National excellent student selection exam, held at the participating unit. Olympic team selection exam, held in Hanoi city.
Regarding the number of candidates in the National Excellent Student Competition: The team for each subject of each participating unit (except for the Hanoi competing unit) has a maximum of 6 candidates; the team with the maximum number of candidates and 80% or more of the candidates winning prizes in 2 consecutive National Excellent Student Competitions will be considered by the Ministry of Education and Training to increase to a maximum of 10 candidates.
The Hanoi exam team for each subject has a maximum of 12 contestants; the team with the maximum number of contestants and 80% or more of the contestants winning prizes in 2 consecutive national excellent student selection competitions will be considered by the Ministry of Education and Training to increase to a maximum of 20 contestants.
Olympic team selection test:The number of candidates taking each subject is decided by the Ministry of Education and Training each year, ensuring that all requirements specified in Clause 2, Article 4 of this Regulation are met./.
Regulations on the national excellent student selection exam stipulate: Preparation for the exam; exam questions, invigilation, grading and review, processing of exam results; reporting and archiving regime; inspection, examination, supervision, handling of violations and rewards of the national excellent student selection exam for high school students and the exam to select high school students for national teams to participate in international and regional Olympic competitions.
