Vietnam-Japan defense cooperation has developed
On the afternoon of May 2, General Phung Quang Thanh, Minister of National Defense, received Admiral Kawano Katsutoshi, Commander of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, who is visiting Vietnam.
At the reception, General Phung Quang Thanh said that along with the general development of the relationship between Vietnam and Japan in all fields, bilateral defense cooperation has also had new developments, demonstrated through mutual visits by leaders of the two countries' Defense Ministries and the establishment of a Defense Strategy Dialogue mechanism at the Deputy Minister of Defense level by the two countries' militaries.
The Minister also appreciated the development in both breadth and depth in the relationship between the two navies, focusing on cooperation areas such as training for Vietnamese military students and sharing experiences in building and developing naval forces.
Admiral Kawano Katsutoshi thanked General Phung Quang Thanh for taking the time to receive the delegation, and expressed his wish to continue strengthening cooperation between the two armies in general and the two navies in particular. This visit is part of the 2013 delegation exchange plan of the Navy.
During their visit to Vietnam, Admiral Kawano Katsutoshi and his delegation laid wreaths, visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum, visited the Navy Command and several units of the Vietnam People's Navy./.
