"Rice Saving Jar" of the Women of Ban Moi
(Baonghean) We went to the house of Ms. Vi Thi Thuy, Head of the Women's Association of Moi village (Thanh Son, Anh Son), when she was receiving rice donated by members in the village for the "Rice Saving Jar".
Ms. Thuy said: The New Village Association has 121 members, and the family life of the women in the village is still difficult. With the desire to help women unite and love each other, step by step help each other overcome difficulties and rise up in life, from 2008 to now, the New Village Women's Association has encouraged women to study and follow the moral example of Ho Chi Minh by practicing thrift. The movements "Charity Rice Jar", "Savings Rice Jar", "Savings Group", "Fund for the elderly and weak parents" ..., have been deployed to each member.
With the hope that women will participate in the movement by saving a handful of rice, a handful of paddy from their family's food rations or saving a little bit of daily expenses... that amount of rice and money will be saved to contribute to the rice jar, the common fund of the association to help poor members, those in difficult circumstances, those who are sick. The saving movement has been positively responded to by members of the Moi village. Every month, women in the village voluntarily bring the saved rice to contribute to the "Rice Saving Jar" at Ms. Thuy's family.
On the occasion of March 8 and October 20 every year, the association organizes to give rice savings jars to the women in the village with the most difficult circumstances as voted by the association. From 2008 to now, members of the Moi village have donated nearly 1,000 kg of rice, supporting nearly 100 poor women in the village. Ms. Lo Thi Thien, who has a difficult situation, said: Since her husband passed away, she has had to raise two small children alone, family life has been very difficult, poverty and illness have always followed her. Recently, her family received 50 kg of rice and some money from the association, that support and help has contributed to helping her overcome the hunger and have more money to buy medicine. When Ms. Ngan's family had a son who died in an accident, leaving behind two young children, the association donated 80kg of rice, 700,000 VND and many timely furniture and supplies to help the family gradually overcome the pain and move forward in life...
Along with implementing the “Rice Saving Jar”, the Women’s Union of Ban Moi also mobilized women to establish a “Fund for old and weak parents” and a “Savings Group”. The union has 5 saving groups, each group has 15 members. Each group saves a little rice, firewood, and money to help families in the group in times of difficulty and misfortune. Ms. Lo Thi Tam, group 1, shared: Recently, her family unfortunately had a relative pass away. Due to the family’s extremely poor circumstances, the group supported her with 70 kg of rice, 600,000 VND, and 500 kg of firewood. The material support has helped her family overcome difficulties and pain, and stabilize their lives...
In the coming time, the Women's Association of Moi village will continue to save money to support poor women to develop their family economy. This is an activity that contributes to both spiritual and material encouragement, promptly helping women overcome difficulties in life and escape poverty. 4 years ago, Moi village had 82/143 poor households, but now there are 68/143 households, a decrease of 14 households. It is thought that this method should be replicated in many branches in the district in the coming time.
