Coach Hoang Van Phuc leaves the "hot seat"

Coach Hoang Van Phuc officially terminated his contract with the Vietnam Football Federation ahead of schedule this morning (April 4), after a working session with the VFF.

On behalf of VFF, Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan, General Secretary Le Hoai Anh and Deputy General Secretary Duong Nghiep Khoi had a working session with Mr. Hoang Van Phuc this morning to resolve the resignation request of the strategist from Hanoi.

VFF leaders highly appreciate Mr. Phuc’s efforts and dedication to the national team and the U23 team over the past year. Despite the unsatisfactory results of the two teams, Mr. Phuc still receives respect and affection from his students. The evidence is the tears of the U23 male players after the 2013 BTV Cup semi-final match with Korea.

Previously, Mr. Phuc had resigned twice after the 27th SEA Games and after the 2015 Asian Cup qualifying campaign. The reason given by Mr. Phuc was that Vietnamese football had entered a new era, needing new factors for further development in the future.

Respecting Mr. Phuc's opinion and based on the current situation, the Vietnam Football Federation has agreed to his resignation request. The document approving the early termination of the contract was signed by Vice President Tran Quoc Tuan and coach Hoang Van Phuc this morning.

Coach Hoang Van Phuc himself has a very good record in youth training. He led the national U16 and U19 teams to the final round of the Asian tournament. He also led the U22 and U23 Vietnam teams to win the BTV Cup runner-up position for two consecutive years. However, being eliminated after the group stage of the 27th SEA Games and not being able to qualify for the 2015 Asian Cup robbed him of many points.

At the 7th VFF Congress, VFF President Le Hung Dung also put an early end to Mr. Phuc when he announced that the Vietnamese team would have a Japanese head coach before the AFF Suzuki Cup at the end of the year.

Mr. Phuc's two best memories as head coach of the U23 and Vietnam national teams are the victory over Korean Students in the semi-finals of the BTV Cup 2013 and the destruction of Hong Kong at My Dinh on March 5./.
