At the recent AFF Cup, Vietnam was considered one of the brightest candidates for the championship. However, the 2008 AFF Cup champion had to say goodbye from the qualifying round with 1 point, after only having 1 draw with Myanmar, losing to the Philippines and Thailand.

Mr. Hung took over the Vietnam national team in the middle of this year, after a period of time when the hot seat was left vacant after the VFF fired German coach Falko Goetz.

VFF members have also spoken out to take responsibility for the national team’s failure. However, apart from Mr. Hung, no other member has resigned.

Accepting coach Phan Thanh Hung's resignation, VFF is expected to hold a meeting on December 13 to come up with a plan to trust a domestic or foreign coach./.
