Hung Nguyen: Honoring exemplary elderly people

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 23, the Hung Nguyen Association of the Elderly held a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam Association of the Elderly and summarize 05 years of implementing the emulation movement "Elderly age - bright example" (2010-2015) and launch the emulation movement for the period 2015-2020.

After 20 years of establishment and development, Hung Nguyen Elderly Association has promoted the emulation movement of good examples of the elderly in all 3 aspects: caring for the elderly, promoting the role of the elderly and building a strong association organization. The results of the emulation movement of good examples of the elderly in the period 2010-2015 in the whole district had 252/252 hamlets building branches, reaching 100%; admitting over 2,600 members, bringing the total number of members to 15,747 people.

Awarding certificates of merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in the exemplary elderly movement

50 senior clubs have been established, including 20 intergenerational self-help clubs with a capital of over 2 billion VND for poor seniors to borrow to contribute to poverty reduction; 7 poetry clubs and 23 health clubs attracting 10,000 members. Associations from district to grassroots levels have coordinated with humanitarian and charitable organizations and medical facilities to provide free eye examinations for 6,000 members, of which nearly 500 members received free eye surgery.

Every year, Hung Nguyen Elderly Association is continuously recognized by superiors for its excellent performance in completing its tasks, and is awarded many certificates of merit by the Central Committee of the Vietnam Elderly Association, the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Elderly Association.
