Hung Xa (Hung Nguyen): Effective model of growing stevia and hot pepper
(Baonghean) HUng Xa (Hung Nguyen) has over 330 hectares of natural land, of which 170 hectares are agricultural land and over 70 hectares are colored land. Previously, in the colored land, most people grew corn, peanuts or soybeans, but the efficiency was not high. In addition, due to unusual weather conditions, people had no harvest for many years.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Hung Xa commune said: The Resolution of the Party Congress of the commune for the term 2010 - 2015 has a policy to encourage the introduction of new vegetables into the alluvial areas for commodity production, and the introduction of new technical advances such as new plant varieties and animal breeds into production. 10 years ago, the commune implemented the construction of high-income fields, introducing vegetables into the field gardens.
From the initial results, in October 2011, the Party Committee and the government of Hung Xa commune proactively coordinated with Asia Company to implement the project program to bring stevia and chili pepper to Lam riverbank and hamlet 6. The implementation method was carried out in the spirit of allocating land to households in need, accordingly, households were supported with stevia and chili seeds to implement the model, were exempted from reducing output and paying taxes.
Commercial model of growing stevia and hot peppers of Mr. Vo Trong Hai - Hamlet 2, Hung Xa (Hung Nguyen)
Up to now, the model of growing stevia and chili peppers for sale in Hung Xa has initially brought about results. Mr. Vo Trong Hai's household has just basically harvested nearly 2 hectares of stevia for sale. According to Mr. Hai, this land used to be planted with corn in December and harvested in April of the following year. However, after the harvest, it seemed that the people had abandoned it, so my family subcontracted this land to grow stevia and chili peppers for sale.
According to Mr. Hai, stevia is harvested in 2 years after planting once. The selling price of stevia is high, fresh grass is 15 thousand/kg, dried grass is 20-25 thousand/kg, and the price of hot chili is 7 thousand/kg. Up to now, after 9 months of planting, the family has harvested nearly 3 tons of fresh stevia (equivalent to 1.5 tons of dried stevia), 5 tons of hot chili. Currently, the chili is continuing to be harvested until the end of this year. With the above selling price, the family earns nearly 60 million VND from selling stevia and nearly ten million VND from hot chili.
Along with Mr. Hai's household, some farming households in hamlets 2 and 6 have taken the initiative to rent alluvial land and fields to grow stevia and chili peppers as commodities, bringing the total area of stevia in the commune to over 3 hectares, and chili peppers for commodities to over 4 sao. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, this is a model of crop restructuring and application of technical advances in commodity production that brings high economic efficiency, people can continue to produce and replicate the model.
