Responding to the national day of buying and using iodized salt

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of November 1, 2013, Vinh city organized a rally in response to the National Day of buying and using iodized salt in daily meals.

In recent years, thanks to the active communication of iodine deficiency disorders to all people, people's awareness of using iodized salt has been significantly raised. Up to now, Vinh city has completed the program's goals and partially eliminated iodine deficiency disorders in 3 basic indicators such as: the rate of goiter in 8-10 year old students is only 1%, the median urinary iodine is 14.6 micrograms/deciliter, and the coverage of iodized salt in the area is over 95%.

However, there are also some difficulties such as: a high percentage of city residents use seasoning powder in family meals; the management and distribution of iodine products in the city are not strictly controlled.

The launching ceremony is an opportunity to propagate to the people the importance of using iodized salt, build and maintain a mass movement to use iodized salt; strive for 100% of families to buy and use iodized salt and iodine products in daily meals.

Immediately after the launching ceremony, the Steering Committee organized a parade on the main streets of Vinh city to promote and call on all people to buy and use iodized salt to prevent iodine deficiency disorders.
