Responding to "Month of action for food safety and hygiene quality in 2014"

(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of April 10, in Vinh city, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee organized the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Food Safety and Hygiene Quality in 2014.

Comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh - Member of the Provincial Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Interdisciplinary Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene attended and directed the conference. Also attending were representatives of departments, branches, Vinh Medical University, the Interdisciplinary Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene, Health Departments, Medical Centers of districts, cities and towns; Representatives of enterprises organizing food production and trading in Vinh city and neighboring areas.

2014 is the 15th year that Nghe An province has organized the “Month of Action for Food Hygiene and Safety”. This year’s Action Month starts from April 15 to May 15, 2014, with the theme “Food Safety for Street Food”. Through the organization of the Action Month across the province, Nghe An province focuses on enhancing the role and responsibility of local authorities at all levels, festival management boards, industrial parks, producers, traders, and consumers in ensuring food safety and hygiene for street food; Strengthening the inspection and examination of food safety at food production, trading, and import establishments, wholesale markets, especially street food establishments.

During the Action Month, all levels of authorities will promote the dissemination of legal regulations on ensuring food safety for street food; organize the signing of commitments to fully comply with regulations on ensuring food safety for 100% of street food businesses in order to contribute to reducing food poisoning and food-borne diseases caused by street food, achieving the goal of reducing 10% of food poisoning cases caused by using street food during the Action Month compared to the same period in 2013.

Speaking at the conference, comrade Dinh Thi Le Thanh requested: Departments, agencies, unions, and localities to actively coordinate with the Department of Health, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, and Department of Industry and Trade to do a good job of ensuring food hygiene and safety; Functional agencies focus on communication, inspection, examination, and handling of food hygiene and safety violations; People's Committees at all levels focus on food hygiene and safety management in their localities; Food businesses, production, and processing establishments need to strictly comply with legal regulations on food hygiene and safety, and uphold their responsibility to protect consumers' health.
