(Baonghean.vn)- On Sunday evening, July 5, all of Europe seemed to focus all its attention on the results of the referendum in Greece. At 8:00 p.m. local time (about 1:00 a.m. Vietnam time), the Greek Ministry of the Interior announced that the "No" votes were in the majority.

On the evening of July 5, the Greek Interior Ministry announced that the voter turnout was 54%. Although the turnout was low, this did not surprise many people. As of 8 p.m., the “No” vote accounted for 61.24% of the 50% of the ballots counted. It is known that the final results will be announced late on the evening of July 5.

Despite the lack of a final result, hundreds of anti-austerity protesters began to gather in Syntagma Square, opposite the parliament building, to celebrate. A series of anti-austerity slogans were then chanted.

In contrast to the bustling atmosphere in Athens, after the above results were announced, the euro price immediately decreased by 1.58% compared to the trading session on July 3. Currently, the euro has dropped below 1.10 USD and is only 1.0963 USD.

On the European side, even before the referendum results were announced, French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that they would meet at the Elysée Palace on Monday evening, July 6, to assess the consequences of the referendum in Greece. According to sources at the Elysée Palace, the meeting between the two leaders aims to “find a long-term solution for Greece”.
