On the morning of August 2, the Center for Rehabilitation and Vocational Training for Agent Orange Victims at the Detoxification Complex of the Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin in Thai Binh Province officially came into operation.

The project is sponsored by the Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Agribank) with a total amount of more than 10 billion VND.

This is one of the meaningful activities showing the concern of society for the victims of Agent Orange/dioxin disaster on the occasion of the anniversary of "Day for Vietnamese Agent Orange/dioxin victims" on August 10 every year.

The establishment of the center will bring new hope in improving health and creating jobs for victims of Agent Orange/dioxin.

Thai Binh currently has more than 34,000 people suspected of being infected with Agent Orange and is the first locality in Vietnam to have a detoxification center for victims. Here, victims exposed to toxic chemicals will be monitored and treated for detoxification using the Hubbard method based on the circulatory and metabolic mechanisms of the human body.

The program, co-sponsored by the Vietnam Association of Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin (VAVA) and the Asia-Pacific Organization for Life (ABLE), was successfully applied in the US and Russia after the Chernobyl disaster in 1986.

Since the technology transfer in 2010, the Association has detoxified nearly 500 victims of Agent Orange/dioxin in and outside the province. Currently, the health status of the patients has improved significantly.

In addition to health care, victims and their children are also trained in sewing, jewelry polishing, and handicraft embroidery.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hanh, Chairman of the Association of Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims of Thai Binh Province, said that in order to celebrate the day “For Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin Victims,” the Association supported 20 families of victims, each with 20 million VND to build houses.

At the ceremony, the Association of Agent Orange/dioxin Victims of Thai Binh province presented 40 wheelchairs to victims of Agent Orange/dioxin./.
