The International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulation on sulphur compound emissions will come into effect from 1 January 2015, and thus the emission control area (ECA) will be expanded worldwide, instead of just in the US, Norway and the North Sea as it is now.
Lee Tae-young, vice president of Hyundai Heavy’s engine and mechanical division, has a series of requirements for the dual-fuel system, which will facilitate the company’s marketing campaign to attract new ship orders once the IMO regulations come into effect.
Also earlier this week, Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, a shipbuilding unit of Hyundai Heavy Industries, said that along with the general decline of the global shipbuilding industry, its operating profit in the third quarter of 2012 fell 37.5 percent year-on-year to 29.64 billion won ($27.24 million), despite a 0.4 percent increase in sales.
