After Microsoft releases a new patch for Windows next week, all older versions of Internet Explorer will be discontinued.

According to the official announcement on the company's homepage, Microsoft said that Internet Explorer versions 8, 9 and 10 will be "killed" on the upcoming Tuesday. The patch KB3123303 will come with a notification asking users of older versions of IE to update to the latest version of IE (IE11). This patch will be provided to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 users who are still on older versions of IE.

This can be considered good news for web developers who are still "having" to support old versions of Internet Explorer. After being discontinued, these browsers will no longer be supported by Microsoft to patch security holes, forcing businesses to update to newer browsers. Previously, versions of Internet Explorer were always hated because they did not follow web standards, forcing programmers to spend a lot of effort and time to make their websites compatible with Microsoft's browser.

Edge will be Microsoft's future browser.

The latest version of Internet Explorer (IE11) will also be the last version of IE supported by Microsoft. The software giant is currently actively moving users to Edge, the "top" browser launched with Windows 10 last year. This means that Internet Explorer - the nightmare of web developers - is also coming to an end, opening a new chapter for both Microsoft and the programming community.
