July 16, 2014 16:05

Since the evening of July 15, an incident occurred on the AAG (Asia America Gate Way) fiber optic cable segment from Vung Tau to Hong Kong, affecting Internet access in Vietnam to international sites.

According to the AAG operator, this incident is about 18 km from the coast of Vung Tau and currently the AAG cable management unit is investigating the cause of the incident and finding solutions to fix this broken fiber optic cable.

According to FPT Telecom, this incident has affected internet access in Vietnam to international sites, leading to slow access. However, domestic websites are still running stably.

It is known that AAG is one of the transoceanic submarine cable systems with a length of more than 20,000 km, connecting Southeast Asia with the United States, via the Pacific Ocean, put into use since November 2009.

The last time the AAG fiber optic cable had a cable break was at the end of 2013. At that time, it took the cable management unit 2 weeks to completely fix the problem.
