French President Francois Hollande also said the attackers claimed to be IS fighters and declared that IS had declared war on France.
It is known that on the morning of July 26, two men armed with knives took hostages at the church of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in the city of Rouen, Northern France.
The attackers murdered the church priest and took hostages.
Police shot them dead in the ensuing hostage rescue operation.
One hostage is in critical condition.
