The Islamic State (IS) shocked the world when it released a video of the beheading of American journalist James Foley in August and now the extremist group is offering to sell the American journalist's headless body.

Buzzfeed (US) news site quoted sources, including a former rebel in Syria and a senior commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), confirming that IS is trying to sell Foley's headless body and the target customers of this organization are the US government or the victim's family.

Under the terms of the sale, IS will return Foley's body to Türkiye for $1 million. The extremist Islamic organization also announced that it would provide DNA samples to prove that the body is that of the American journalist.

“They asked for $1 million and said they would send the DNA to Türkiye, but they wanted the money first. They wouldn’t give the DNA sample without the money,” Buzzfeed’s source said.

So far, IS has executed three American citizens and it is likely that the organization thought it could profit from their headless bodies, according to RT (Russia). It is not yet clear whether IS is selling the bodies of two other American citizens: journalist Steve Sotloff and aid worker Peter Kassig.

However, even if the Foley family wants to buy back their loved one's body, the US government may intervene and prevent the deal because it is an act of supporting terrorism, according to RT.

And if the US government wants to buy the body of the American journalist or allow the family to do so, Washington will face a lot of criticism, Buzzfeed quoted a commander of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) as saying.

“It will be a shame for the US government. People will ask why they bought the body instead of spending money to save this person while he was still alive,” this person said.
