Members of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) group have burned a Syrian pilot to death after more than a year of holding him captive.

Azam Eid fell into the hands of terrorists after parachuting from a Syrian Air Force MiG 2 that was shot down by IS fighters. More than a year later, IS released images of Azam Eid being burned alive by them.

According to the British newspaper The Sun, the pilot was wearing an orange suit, with an iron chain around his neck held tightly by an IS member from behind. He was then tied to a tree and executed by IS members.

Eid is the second pilot to be burned alive by IS – a brutal execution claimed by IS as revenge for the destruction caused by bombs dropped by the plane.

Eid's plane was shot down after taking off from Al Dumayr military base, east of Damascus. The IS-linked Amaq news agency said the pilot was from Hama.

The video also includes footage of the plane wreckage.

In December 2014, IS shot down a US-led coalition plane and captured its Jordanian pilot, Maaz al-Kassasbeh. The terrorists then burned him alive.
