Police and medical sources said one of the two explosions occurred at a market in Huwaidar, about 4 km north of Baquba, killing 51 people and injuring at least 80 others.
"The attackers bypassed the checkpoint by squeezing into a wedding convoy and then used explosives to detonate the bomb at the crowded market," a police officer said.
Another blast in eastern Baquba killed seven people and wounded 25. Islamist militants targeted a checkpoint used by the Iraqi army and volunteers from the Hashid Shaabi, a Shiite umbrella force.
The attacks come less than a month after an IS bombing near the town of Khan Bani Saad killed more than 100 people and led to violent protests.
In January, Iraqi authorities declared victory over Islamic State (IS) militants in Diyala province, which borders Iran, after security forces drove them out of towns and villages. However, the IS group continues to operate.
