IS claims to have shot down a fighter jet in Syria, captured the pilot
IS militants announced on December 24 that they had shot down a fighter jet in the northeastern Syrian city of Raqqa and captured the pilot.
IS militants said they shot down the fighter jet with a heat-seeking missile.
AFP quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying: "We confirm reports that IS militants have captured an Arab pilot after shooting down his plane with an anti-aircraft missile near the city of Raqqa."

IS social media accounts also posted many photos showing the pilot of the fighter jet captured by IS militants, claiming he was Jordanian.
One of the photos shows the pilot wearing a white shirt being dragged away by four rebels while another shows him surrounded by dozens of armed rebels.
Currently, both the Syrian government and the US-led coalition are conducting airstrikes on IS positions in Raqqa, the organization's self-proclaimed capital.
The Syrian government, as well as officials whose pilots were captured, have yet to make any statements about the shooting down of the plane. US officials said they were reviewing the information but declined to comment specifically./.
