According to RIA Novosti on July 28, the Ynet news portal quoted a statement by Foreign Minister Israel Katz saying that Israel is approaching a full-scale war with the Shiite and Lebanese Hezbollah movement.

“We are approaching the moment of a full-scale war with Hezbollah and Lebanon. We will respond both at the front and in the rear, but at the end of the war, Hezbollah and Hezbollah will be defeated and Lebanon will suffer heavy losses,” said Foreign Minister Israel Katz.

Mr. Katz also promised to restore peace and security in the north of the country, and directed the State Department to prepare for a comprehensive worldwide campaign to gain legitimacy for action in Lebanon.

Previously, on July 27, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that Hezbollah had launched a rocket attack on a village in northern Israel, killing 12 people and seriously injuring dozens of others, mostly children.

A Hezbollah source told RIA Novosti that the movement had nothing to do with the incident. Lebanon, for its part, condemned the attack on civilians and called for a ceasefire on all fronts.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel will not ignore the attack on the Golan Heights, and that Hezbollah will pay the “heaviest price” for this.

“Israel will respond to this deadly attack and Hezbollah will pay the highest price for this action – a price it has never paid before,” Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said in a statement.

The Times of Israel on July 28 quoted this politician's office as reporting that Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir believes that the country needs to start a war with the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon.

Former US President Donald Trump called the attack on the Golan Heights “horrific” and said the US must regain respect in the world and prevent further attacks on Israel.

“You probably heard that Israel suffered a terrible attack. Things like this should not happen. Obviously Hezbollah was behind this. They should not be allowed to do this, they should respect us. We need to get our respect back. This should not be happening in the world,” Trump said while speaking at the annual Bitcoin 2024 Conference in Nashville, USA.

The situation on the Israel-Lebanon border has worsened since Israel began its military operations in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. IDF and Hezbollah members fire at each other's positions on a daily basis.
