The University of Economics (University of Danang) closed two majors: Political Economics and Statistics - Information Technology, Pham Van Dong University stopped training in Finance and Banking. It is expected that this school year, a series of majors will have to stop training.

The University of Economics (University of Danang) has just decided to discontinue the two majors Political Economics and Statistics - Informatics because there were no successful candidates in this year's admissions. Director Tran Van Nam said that the admissions to these two majors have been difficult in recent years. On the other hand, students graduating from the majors Political Economics and Statistics - Informatics have difficulty finding jobs, so few candidates choose to choose them. According to Mr. Nam, the school will only temporarily close these two majors for one year. The school will resume admissions in the 2012 university entrance exam.

Although only a few candidates scored above the minimum score, non-public universities are still waiting and hoping to salvage their second and third choices (NV2, NV3). In addition to promoting their training programs, schools also have many tricks to attract candidates such as reducing tuition fees and giving scholarships to candidates who register their choices with high scores.

Mr. Dang Van Dinh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chu Van An University, lamented that last year the school had used all means to attract candidates, but by the end of the enrollment season, it had only achieved 50% of the assigned target, and some majors had to close. With the situation this year, he feared that many majors would have to stop training.

"This year, only 111 candidates passed the minimum score to enter the school, all quotas are for NV2 and NV3. We will reduce tuition fees for all candidates entering the school in the first year to share the difficulties with them," said Mr. Dinh.

Mr. Tran Huu Nghi, Principal of Hai Phong Private University, said that after the Ministry of Education announced the minimum scores, non-public universities are extremely worried about the lack of recruitment sources. Currently, Hai Phong Private University is actively promoting and mobilizing to attract candidates to register for NV2.

"We are making plans to prepare for the situation where we cannot recruit enough university students to transfer to college, intermediate, and transfer programs. In addition, the school is also organizing training cooperation with foreign countries to satisfy all the needs of students," said Mr. Nghi, adding that he will apply all methods to convert the enrollment quota so that no major has to be closed.

Chairman of the Association of Non-Public Schools Tran Hong Quan said that when deciding on the floor score, the Ministry of Education did not see all the difficulties of lower-ranking schools and non-public schools and was too strict on the common floor score. "Between a rural student who did not receive extra classes and achieved the floor score and a city student who had studied hard and scored more than 20 points, it is not certain which student is better. So why be too strict on a common standard score?", Mr. Quan analyzed.

According to Mr. Quan, the Association is researching and submitting to the Ministry for consideration a plan for schools to implement regulation 33 on recruiting students from disadvantaged areas and training schools according to demand. In addition, if after recruiting NV2, there are still recruitment sources, it will propose that the Ministry extend the recruitment period for schools that lack enrollment quotas.

Previously, Pham Van Dong University (Quang Ngai) also dropped the Finance - Banking major because only one candidate passed the university entrance exam this year.

Last year, many universities had to close their courses because they could not recruit enough students. For example, Dong Do University closed two majors: Electronics and Telecommunications and Information Technology; Luong The Vinh University closed the majors of Veterinary Medicine, Mechanics, Aquaculture, Plant Protection, and Culture and Tourism; Hong Duc University temporarily stopped training in three majors: Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine, Aquaculture, Plant Protection, etc.
