James Rodriguez wins Best Goal of 2014
The Colombian star beat Stephanie Roche and Robin Van Persie to be named in the best goal category at the FIFA Gala yesterday, January 12.
The masterpiece that helped James to be honored yesterday came in the match of 1/8 round of World Cup 2014 between his Colombian team and neighboring Uruguay.
Receiving a header from teammate Abel Aguilar, the Colombian striker controlled the ball for a moment, then turned very quickly and volleyed it. The ball just went beyond the Uruguayan goalkeeper's reach, lightly hitting the underside of the crossbar and into the net.
"I always try these shots in training. And if I'm lucky, two out of 100 shots go in. This time it went in and at the right angle and I wanted it," James said in July, when he won the World Cup Goal of the Year award.

And yesterday, that masterpiece once again helped the Colombian midfielder surpass two other candidates, a similar volley from Irish player Roche and a header from Dutch player Robin Van Persie, to be honored with the award for the best goal of 2014 at the FIFA Gala night.
Roche also scored from a controlled volley in Peamount United's game against Wexford Yount, while Van Persie scored with a flying header past Casillas in the Netherlands' opening game of the 2014 World Cup against Spain.
