Forbes magazine builds this annual ranking based on two general criteria: brand awareness and asset value, divided into six specific categories for evaluation. This is the first time Jennifer has topped this prestigious Forbes ranking. According to Forbes estimates, Jennifer Lopez earned $52 million last year.
What made the 42-year-old the hottest and most sought-after star of 2011, according to one expert, was the impact of her participation in the American Idol judging panel. “The influence of American Idol is huge,” said Jon Albert, CEO of the Albert Company, a leading agency in mediating stars for advertising agencies. “It can build careers for both contestants and judges.
Advertisers saw her on Idol and the positive response from the public, so it's understandable that they would chase her. Besides, the obvious fact is that Jennifer is a beautiful, talented, multicultural star."
Over the past year, more than 23,000 articles have been written about Jennifer. She has appeared on the covers of 46 major magazines, topped People magazine's list of Most Beautiful Women of 2011, and was named Woman of the Year by Glamour magazine.
In terms of her career, Jennifer released her first album in four years, Love, in May 2011. She used Idol to release music videos and perform several songs. The song "On the Floor" reached high positions on many music charts and attracted nearly 540 million views on YouTube.
Jennifer also became the new face of L'Oreal cosmetics, signing advertising contracts with famous brands such as Giellete, Fiat, TOUS jewelry...
This May, audiences will see Jennifer back on the big screen in her new film What to Expect When You're Expecting. In addition, she will introduce her 18th fragrance, Glowing, in her ten-year-long best-selling fragrance series with Coty. In June, she will embark on a world tour, starting in Panama City.
The remaining stars in the top 10 of Forbes' ranking are: Oprah Winfrey (leading the categories of revenue and popularity on radio and television), Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Lady Gaga (leading the criteria of being mentioned in the press and most loved by society), Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Tom Cruise and Steven Speilberg. Last year, the star honored by Forbes as the most powerful was Lady Gaga.
