On Tuesday, IS released a 22-minute video on the SITE website showing a man dressed in orange being locked in an iron cage and burned alive. According to the statement issued by IS, the man in the video is Jordanian pilot Maaz al-Kassasbeh, who has been held hostage by IS since December 24.
The video came after Jordanian authorities said on Sunday they would do everything possible to free the hostages and strongly condemned the previous execution of a Japanese hostage by IS.
As soon as the video was released, King Abdullah II of Jordan cut short his trip to the United States and returned to his country. At the same time, the Jordanian army declared that they would avenge the death of their comrade. The Jordanian government also affirmed that they would take "resolute" actions against what IS has done to its citizens.
For his part, President Barack Obama continued to strongly condemn the “barbaric” crimes of the terrorist organization IS and said that “this organization is only interested in death and destruction”. Mr. Obama affirmed that the actions of IS only strengthen the international coalition’s determination to destroy this organization.
