On December 30, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Van Hung (born 1967), also known asHung "count"", residing in Ha Huy Tap ward, Vinh city, for two crimes of "Illegal trading of narcotics" and "Illegal possession of military weapons".

According to the indictment, at around 1:00 p.m. on June 13, 2020, Hung called Lau Ba Xu (Tri Le commune, Que Phong district) to order 1 heroin cake, 1 kg of crystal meth, and 10 packets of pink phien. That evening, Hung gave the seller 350 million VND, promising to pick up the drugs the next day.
At 1:00 a.m. on June 28, Hung went to Chau Binh commune, Quy Chau district to receive drugs from Xu. After receiving the "goods", Hung moved to Vinh city and was discovered by the police, arrested with evidence of more than 1.5 kg of drugs. Hung confessed to buying the drugs to resell to a man named Long for 450 million VND.
On the same day, Nghe An police executed an emergency search warrant at Hung's residence and discovered a K59 military gun, 3 ammunition boxes, and 32 military bullets.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to buying drugs to resell for profit. Regarding the gun and 32 bullets, Hung said he bought them for 30 million VND because he… liked them.
Considering the case comprehensively, the People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Hung to life in prison for illegal drug trafficking and 3 years in prison for drug possession.Illegal possession of military weapons. The defendant is required to serve a combined sentence of life imprisonment.
