The man who robbed BIDV bank with a gun was sentenced.

The People's Court of Thua Thien - Hue province has just sentenced Nguyen Hoang Tam, the person who committed the robbery at BIDV bank, to 15 years in prison for "Robbery".

On August 29, the People's Court of Thua Thien - Hue province opened a trial of defendant Nguyen Hoang Tam (born in 1987, residing in Ha Uc 4 village, Vinh An commune, Phu Vang district) for the crime of robbery.

According to the indictment, because he lost over 800 million VND in football betting, Tam had the idea of ​​appropriating the bank's assets to pay off the debt.

On December 5, 2016, Tam rode his SH motorbike to Hue to buy an Attila motorbike with license plate 52Z5-3962 for 2,100,000 VND and parked it in the parking lot of Hue Central Hospital, then took Tam's motorbike that he had parked earlier and drove to Da Nang.

The next morning (December 6), Tam took the previously purchased gas gun and rode his motorbike back to Hue to buy some tools such as a backpack, helmet, mask... to prepare to commit the crime.

At around 5:00 p.m. the same day, employees of the Thanh Noi Transaction Office of the Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) Thua Thien - Hue branch were observed counting money and there were no more customers coming in to make transactions.

Nguyen Hoang Tam rushed in and fired several shots to intimidate and threaten the bank staff and took 725,700,000 VND and a bank note left on the transaction desk, put it in his bag and quickly went out on a motorbike to escape.

Tam drove his motorbike to the end of Dong Ba market, left his helmet and motorbike on the side of the road, then took a taxi to the parking lot of Hue Central Hospital. Tam took the motorbike he had parked earlier and drove to his wife's parents' house in Vinh An commune (Phu Vang district).

During the investigation, on December 18, the police investigation agency issued an emergency arrest warrant for Tam and searched and seized at Tam's parents-in-law's house a black and red backpack hidden under the bed, in the bag was a gas gun, a magazine with 10 bullets and 7,000,000 VND.

At the trial, Nguyen Hoang Tam confessed to all his crimes and asked the jury to consider reducing his sentence.

However, considering that the defendant's actions were premeditated, the defendant had carefully planned to act, and that this behavior of the defendant was very harmful to society, the court sentenced defendant Nguyen Hoang Tam to 15 years in prison.

Previously, the defendant's family had compensated the bank for all the money that Tam had robbed.
