(Baonghean.vn) - Security cameras on Highway 7A recorded a video clip of a white car - suspected of causing an accident that killed an old woman and injured another, then fled.

On the afternoon of January 2, Anh Son District Police (Nghe An) said that the driver of the car that caused the accident at km 64+100m of National Highway 7A (in village 11, Tuong Son commune, Anh Son district) that killed Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay (born in 1942) and injured Ms. Tran Thi Truc (born in 1938) has surrendered to Anh Son District Police.

It is known that the driver who surrendered was Nguyen Dinh Thang (born in 1971, residing in Van Son commune, Do Luong district, Nghe An).

Relatives of Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay (76 years old, residing in Hamlet 11, Tuong Son Commune) also said: The police and Mr. Thang's family took Mr. Thang to Ms. Bay's house to burn incense and apologize to her family.

“At our family, Mr. Thang admitted that after hitting the two women who fell on the road, he did not get out of the car to save them, but instead reversed the car and turned the steering wheel to escape. Mr. Thang drove the Hyundai i10 to Ha Tinh and then went to the garage to fix the damaged part of the car." Mr. Thang's relatives also said that "yesterday, Mr. Thang in Ha Tinh dared to call home to report the incident and his relatives persuaded Mr. Thang to turn himself in." We believe that after the press published the news, the police got involved, and social media spoke out, knowing he could not escape, Mr. Thang turned himself in," said Ms. Tran Thi Nga (Mrs. Bay's daughter).

LikeBaonghean.vnreported that on the afternoon of December 29, 2018, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bay and Ms. Tran Thi Truc (both residing in Hamlet 11, Tuong Son Commune) and everyone in the self-management group went to Mr. Le Thanh Dong's house for a self-management group meeting and year-end party. At about 6:05 p.m. the same day, Ms. Bay and Ms. Truc walked together to National Highway 7A to go home when a traffic accident occurred. The driver of the car fled to avoid responsibility. Ms. Bay and Ms. Truc were discovered by relatives and people, who took them to the hospital for emergency treatment. Due to severe injuries, Ms. Bay died later.

At the scene, the Anh Son District Police Department seized some debris of the car that caused the accident.
