Plan to organize major holidays in 2014 - 2015

Recently, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1063/QD-TTg approving the plan to celebrate major holidays in 2014 - 2015.

Accordingly, the celebration of major holidays in 2014 - 2015 aims to foster and promote patriotism, revolutionary heroism, solidarity, pride and self-reliance of the nation; consolidate and strengthen people's confidence in the leadership of the Party, affirming the Party's leadership as the decisive factor in all victories of the Vietnamese revolution. In addition, the celebration of major holidays also affirms the great achievements of our nation in the cause of national liberation and the cause of national renewal; strengthens the great national unity bloc; propagates and educates on historical traditions, national culture, revolutionary ideals and ethics... Thereby, introducing festivals, the resilient, hard-working and peace-loving Vietnamese people to international friends and compatriots abroad.

National-level holidays organized by the National Organizing Committee include: 60th Anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory Day (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2014); 40th Anniversary of Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2015); 100th Anniversary of General Secretary Nguyen Van Linh's Birthday (July 1, 1915 - July 1, 2015); 70th Anniversary of August Revolution Day (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2015) and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2015).

Major holidays organized by the Ministries include the 60th Anniversary of the Signing of the Geneva Agreement on Peace in Vietnam and Indochina (July 20, 2014); the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2014) and the 25th Anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2014); the 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Public Security (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2015) and the 10th Anniversary of the National Security Day (August 19, 2005 - August 19, 2015).

The celebrations of the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2014); the 85th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2015); and the 125th Anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's Birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2015) will be organized by the Hanoi People's Committee.

In addition to the national scale, holidays at the level of ministries, departments, branches, central organizations, provinces, and centrally-run cities include the birthdays of key leaders of the Party, State, and typical senior leaders; revolutionary movements; typical events and traditional days, establishment of sectors; liberation days, establishment days of provinces and centrally-run cities are organized according to the decision of the Secretariat or Decree 145/2013/ND-CP dated October 29, 2013 of the Government.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is the standing agency of the National Organizing Committee for the celebration of major holidays in 2014 - 2015, with the task of guiding, monitoring and inspecting the implementation of the plan; presiding over the development of projects for the organization of major holidays and carrying out the assigned tasks in the Project for the celebration of major holidays.

The Prime Minister requested that the celebration of major holidays be carried out in a solemn and dignified manner appropriate to the scale and scope of the event; propaganda work needs to be diverse, rich, appropriate, and focused; ensuring practicality, safety, and effectiveness; and there must be unity and synchronization in directing the organization work./.
