The man who disposed of his lover's body in Saigon asked for a reduced sentence.
On December 28, the High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City rejected the request for sentence reduction, upholding the death penalty for Dang Van Tuan (46 years old) for murder.
According to the People’s Court, Tuan had just completed his prison term for drug trafficking less than a year ago and committed a serious crime. He killed his lover, cut her into pieces and disposed of the body parts, which is a barbaric act and must be severely punished.

The first instance verdict determined that in 2013, after being released from prison, Tuan and his son moved in with his younger brother, Thanh (38 years old), in the house left by his parents in Cau Kho ward, District 1. Tuan then developed feelings for Hanh (41 years old, living as husband and wife with Thanh).
During this time, Hanh had a conflict with her uncle, who asked Tuan to pretend to love his aunt so that her husband would be jealous and divorce her. The fake love became real, and Tuan then fell in love with Hanh's aunt. When Hanh found out, she became jealous and threatened to kill Tuan's whole family.
On the afternoon of September 28, 2014, Ms. Hanh was putting on makeup and talking on the phone with a friend. At that time, Tuan had just smoked crystal meth. Hallucinating, he thought that Ms. Hanh had called someone to kill his family, so he took a wooden stick and hit the victim on the head many times, strangling her to death. After committing the crime, Tuan locked the door and did not let his sister and son into the house.
Two days later, fearing being discovered, Tuan bought kerosene and poured it on Hanh's body to "eliminate the smell of death" and then divided it into several parts and put them in 7 nylon bags. At dawn, he dumped the body on the roadside and at the foot of Lo Gom Bridge (District 6). Tuan barricaded himself in his house, intending to commit suicide when the police arrived to arrest him, but then threw the keys for them to come in and rescue him.
In August, at the first instance trial of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court, Tuan asked for the maximum sentence "to set an example for others" because he believed the crime he had committed was too serious. However, after receiving the death sentence, he asked for a lighter sentence on the grounds that he had a young child./.
