Dallas Police Chief David Brown said yesterday that authorities do not yet know what suspect Micah Xavier Johnson intended to write, but investigators are still trying to find out, according to ABC News.

Brown added that Johnson also kept a personal diary that was “full of endless content.” The Dallas police chief also confirmed that during the negotiations with the police, Johnson requested to speak only with the African-American negotiator.

In the face of mixed opinions surrounding the police's use of a robot to kill Johnson, Mr. Brown affirmed that "he would still act the same way in similar circumstances."

"We believe that decision saved many lives," he said. "Those who criticized the decision were not present at the scene, and their lives were not in danger."

The attack occurred on July 7 as crowds were marching and protesting in Dallas against the US police shooting two black men in just two days. Twelve police officers and two civilians were shot in the ambush, of which five police officers died. Johnson was surrounded by police in a garage in downtown Dallas. Police exchanged gunfire with him for 45 minutes, and finally killed him with a bomb-carrying robot.
