Speaking to Parliament, British Prime Minister Theresa May said the attacker was born in Britain and had been investigated by MI5 for violent extremism.

After 4pm (around 11am UK time), police arrested an eighth person. Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police's crime scene commander, said: "Hundreds of detectives worked through the night (UK time) and during that time police also searched six addresses, arresting seven people."

Sky TV channel reported that early this morning (UK time), British police searched a house in Birmingham and blocked many streets there.

Sky News quoted Mr Rowley: "I continue to request that the identity of the attacker not be released because the investigation is at a very sensitive stage. As I said, the police are continuing to search and arrest."

Mr Rowley also affirmed that the UK stood with 'all communities' and would soon meet with religious leaders. Mr Rowley said: "We must not allow terrorists to sow division, fear and strife."

British police also said they had increased forces, both armed and plainclothes, on the streets.

The attack in Westminster, London left four people dead, including the attacker. A police officer was stabbed to death and the attacker was shot dead by police. The other two dead were a woman in her 40s and a man in his 50s.

According to the latest information, Sky News channel said that this woman is Aysha Frade, 43 years old, a teacher, holding a British passport but has family in Spain. The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Ms. Frade's mother lives in Spain.

There were also 29 people injured, including 12 Britons, two Romanians, four South Koreans, one American, one German, one Pole, one Chinese, two Greeks and several French children. Seven of them are in critical condition.
