According to a VNA correspondent in Africa, just a few hours after the extremist Islamic group Al-Shabaab threatened to organize new "bloodbaths" in Kenya, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta announced that the country's security forces would respond to them with the most drastic measures and the Kenyan Government would mobilize all resources for this goal.

Speaking on national television channel KBC on the afternoon of April 4, President Kenyatta said that Al-Shabaab has now become an "existential threat" to Kenya and affirmed that he will apply the strongest measures to fight against terrorist forces as well as not tolerate those who support terrorism or spread extremism.

President Kenyatta also declared that the Al-Shabaab group, which is linked to the international terrorist network al-Qaeda, will not be able to establish a "Caliphate" in Kenya.

However, the leader also admitted that Kenya's fight against terrorism will be very difficult, as those who plan and finance terrorist activities often blend in with the community and are very difficult to detect.

The Kenyan President also announced three days of national mourning to commemorate the 148 victims who died in the Al-Shabaab attack on Moi University in Garissa town on April 2.

Also on April 4, political leaders in the volatile northeastern region of Kenya asked the government to repatriate Somali refugees after the attack.

They pledged to change the law to facilitate the return of refugees to help the government fight terrorism, and urged the United Nations to find other areas for them.

Currently, some terrorists are taking advantage of these refugee camps as a place to recruit and plan attacks.
