Connecting and shining the tradition of learning in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn) -On the evening of August 18, the T50 Guest House of Military Region 4 was packed with people. The bright smiles, the sparkling eyes of joy of the national excellent students, the valedictorians, the salutatorians, the students who passed the university entrance exam with high scores, the fresh bouquets of flowers, the warm congratulations "heated up" the atmosphere of the honor ceremony.

For generations, the people of Nghe An have been famous for their love of learning and their ability to study well. Born on a dry, rocky land with a harsh climate and a difficult life, each person has been urged to "study hard to become successful". Seeing "fame and fame are debts that must be paid to the country", so even though life is poor and difficult, parents still take care of their children's education. Continuing that tradition, generations of students in Nghe An have always upheld the spirit of overcoming difficulties, studying well, and achieving high results. The proof is that in the national excellent student competition in the 2011-2012 school year, students in Nghe An brought home 91 prizes, including 3 first prizes. Standing on the podium to honor national excellent students, receiving the Certificate of Merit from the Provincial People's Committee, receiving congratulations and encouragement from teachers, friends, and admiration from students of the following classes, Truong Dinh Thong, the first prize winner in the national Chemistry subject, passed the university entrance exam with a score of 27.5, was moved: "It is difficult to express my feelings at this moment. I am very happy and moved. Happy because my efforts have been recognized, moved because I have received attention from all levels and sectors. That is the motivation for me to continue to strive to excel in my studies, in my career and in the future..."

Among the more than 300 students honored this time, many are valedictorians of "famous" universities, some have high scores in both groups of exams, including 4 students in the top 100 candidates with the highest university entrance exam scores in the country. A typical example is Nguyen Thanh Long (a student of Phan Boi Chau High School), who won first prize in the national math competition and was admitted directly to university but still determined to take the exam to "test" himself. As a result, he was valedictorian of Hanoi University of Pharmacy (29 points), and passed the entrance exam to Hanoi University of Medicine with a score of 28.50. Long was twice on the list of candidates with the highest scores in the country in both groups A and B. Sharing his study secret, Long humbly said: “I think the most important thing is the awareness of studying. You must always set yourself a certain goal, study seriously, have passion and the will to strive. My study method is not to “learn by rote, study by heart”, not to bury myself in studying like a “bookworm”, but to know how to divide my timetable reasonably and scientifically, to grasp the knowledge in textbooks, to practice test-taking skills by practicing solving sets of questions, to ask teachers and friends about things I don’t understand or am not sure about, and not to hide my ignorance...”

This year, not only students from specialized schools such as Phan Boi Chau, Vinh University or traditional schools such as Huynh Thuc Khang, but also schools in mountainous and coastal areas have risen to make their names on the golden list of achievements of Nghe An province. They are Quynh Luu 1 High School with 6 students with university entrance exam scores above 27 points, Anh Son 1 High School with 4 students; Phan Dang Luu High School with 4 students... "The teaching and learning conditions of our rural schools may not be equal to those of specialized schools. But with the determination of the students, the dedication and enthusiasm of the teachers, the high determination of the school, for 3 consecutive years, Quynh Luu I High School has always ranked 3rd in the top high schools in the province with high scores in the university entrance exam... That is the most convincing proof of the quality of teaching and learning of the school", said Mr. Luong Ngoc Son, Principal of Quynh Luu I High School.

More importantly, there are many students whose families are in extremely difficult circumstances, who have serious illnesses, but still strive to study well and pass the university entrance exam with convincing scores. Among the 84 students with especially difficult circumstances who achieved high scores and were honored this time, there are many students who are shining examples of perseverance, beautiful symbols of the love of learning. That is Nguyen Van Linh, a student at Le Viet Thuat High School who is severely disabled but still perseveres in class and school, becomes a good student, and passes the university entrance exam with 20.5 points. To achieve that result, Linh has strived persistently for 12 years, a joy crystallized by sweat and tears. That is Tran Van Duc (student of Anh Son 1 High School), orphaned since he was 6 years old, Duc lives with his sister, poor health due to surgery to remove a kidney, but for 12 consecutive years Duc has been an excellent student at school and district, in this year's university entrance exam, Duc passed 2 universities: group B Hue University of Medicine with 26 points (including priority points) and group A University of Economics, Hanoi National University (20.5 points). That is Truong Van Duc (student of Cua Lo High School), suffering from congenital heart disease, difficult family circumstances still rose to become an excellent student of the school, passed the university entrance exam with a dream score (24 points). Each student, each situation is different, but all of them have the same goal, the same spirit of loving to study and having to study well, they become shining examples for every student to follow. Nguyen Thanh Tam, a student at Huynh Thuc Khang High School, said: “We are so lucky to be able to attend this meaningful ceremony. You are our role models, our motivation to strive in our studies, and our dream of standing on the podium of honor...”

This is the fourth consecutive year that Nghe An province has organized a ceremony to honor and award excellent international and national students, students with high scores in university entrance exams.
