Investigation results of student poisoning case in Muong Nhe

According to information from the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health), on September 19, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Dien Bien province had the initial results of the investigation into the cause of the food poisoning incident that caused 10 students at the Muong Nhe District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Dien Bien province to suffer from food poisoning.

According to information from the Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health), on September 19, the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Dien Bien province had the initial results of the investigation into the cause of the food poisoning incident that caused 10 students at the Muong Nhe District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Dien Bien province to suffer from food poisoning.

The results showed that the suspected cause of the poisoning was chemicals from fruits (cucumbers, cantaloupes) contaminated with chemicals bought from fruit stalls outside the school and brought home to eat. A total of 10 students ate the fruits at 2:00 p.m. on September 16, 2013.

Dien Bien Province Food Safety and Hygiene Department is continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies to investigate and determine the cause, trace the food to thoroughly handle the food poisoning case and contribute to food safety management in the area.

On September 16, at Muong Nhe District Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, a food poisoning incident occurred, causing 10 students to be hospitalized with symptoms of dizziness, stomachache, nausea, pale skin, difficulty breathing, headache, slow pulse, low blood pressure and no fever.

Before the above information, the Food Safety Department has sent a document instructing to strengthen measures to handle food poisoning in the area to the Dien Bien Provincial Department of Health, directing local authorities to investigate the cause and handle the food poisoning case according to regulations.

Dien Bien Province Food Safety Department coordinated with relevant agencies to carry out emergency and treatment activities with measures such as intravenous fluids, activated charcoal, cardiovascular and respiratory support at the District Medical Center, and to investigate and handle food poisoning cases.

By the morning of September 18, 2013, all 10 patients had recovered and been discharged from the hospital./.
