EURO 2024 results: Ronaldo's bad luck, Portugal makes a dramatic comeback to beat Czech in extra time
Portugal began their EURO 2024 campaign with a clash with the Czech Republic. Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates quickly took control of the game after the opening whistle. They pushed up their formation and controlled most of the ball on the pitch. Portugal pressed and forced their opponents to defend deep.
In the 32nd minute, Bruno Fernandes made a smart pass. Ronaldo broke free and faced the Czech goalkeeper but his shot was unsuccessful. 13 minutes later, Ronaldo handled the ball better but his shot was not sharp enough.

The first 45 minutes passed without any goals being scored.
In the second half, the Portuguese team immediately attacked to find the lead. However, coach Martinez's students still encountered many difficulties. Their chances kept slipping away due to the excellence of goalkeeper Stanek on the Czech team.
In the 62nd minute, Coufal had a reasonable pass to Provod to shoot beautifully from a distance to open the score for the Czech team. In the 69th minute, from Mendes' header, goalkeeper Stanek rushed out to block and accidentally sent the ball hitting teammate Hranac's foot, causing the centre-back to score an own goal.
Portugal continued to attack and had to wait until the last minute to get what they needed. In the 88th minute, Ronaldo headed the ball against the post, Jota ran in and finished the ball into the net but the goal was disallowed.
In extra time, Portugal organized a quick counter-attack. Neto crossed for Conceicao to finish close to the goal, sealing a 2-1 victory for Portugal.
Türkiye beat Georgia in a dramatic opening match of EURO
Türkiye won a dramatic 3-1 victory over Georgia in the opening match of Group F of the EURO 2024 finals.

With a squad that was considered stronger than their opponent, Türkiye quickly created an overwhelming situation. Hakan Calhanoglu and his teammates controlled the ball well in the first half. Mert Muldur opened the scoring with a beautiful volley in the 26th minute.
In the very next phase, Türkiye put the ball into the opponent's net with a close-range touch from Kenan Yildiz. However, after consulting VAR, the referee determined that there was an offside and canceled the goal.
Escaping the second goal, Georgia pushed up their formation to play offensively. It didn't take long for the EURO rookie team to score.
Georges Mikautadze made history as the first Georgian player to score at a EURO finals. The striker's shot was not strong, but goalkeeper Mert Gunok's slow reflexes caused Türkiye to concede a goal.
This situation was maintained for most of the second half. Türkiye gradually increased the pressure and launched many shots, mostly from long range.
Faced with Georgia's determination, Türkiye had to rely on individual brilliance to take the lead. Arda Guler - a young talent of Real Madrid - made a beautiful long-range shot in the 65th minute, giving the opposing goalkeeper no chance to block.
The match became exciting in the final minutes, when Georgia tried their best to attack to find the first point. They came very close to scoring, but haste and bad luck prevented Kvicha Kravatskhelia and his teammates from equalizing.
Türkiye sealed the victory with a score of 3-1.
