Experts from the People's Hospital of Wuhan University and the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (China's number one natural science research institution) have found nucleic acid in the stool and rectal mucus of patients after they noticed that the initial symptom of some people infected with the coronavirus was only diarrhea, instead of the common symptom of fever.
The research team believes that the new coronavirus still has a certain degree of transmission through the fecal-oral route, in addition to transmission through droplets (saliva) and close contact.
If the transmission route through the digestive tract is confirmed, there will be specific recommendations related to diet (limiting the consumption of raw meat and raw vegetables), sexual intercourse (through the "back door"), personal hygiene (using standard toilets), discharging medical wastewater, farming (fertilizing with manure), animal husbandry, etc.
