Search for victims of Russian plane crash ends
The head of Basarnas, Vice Admiral Daryatmo, said rescue teams had searched the entire crash site of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 in the Salak Mountains in the Bogor district of West Java. One of the rescue teams had entered an area close to large pieces of the ill-fated plane, but on May 13, the rescue teams had to temporarily stop the search because of bad weather. So far, 18 body bags have been brought to the R. Sukanto Police Hospital in East Jakarta for identification. Many Indonesian officials have confirmed that there is very little chance of passengers surviving the tragic accident.

In the latest development, a VNA correspondent in Jakarta quoted the head of the Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), Tatang Kurniadi, as saying that the black box of the ill-fated plane had been located, but had not yet been retrieved because it was buried under the plane's debris. According to Mr. Kurniadi, the search for the black box was very difficult due to complex terrain conditions and very bad weather, while many pieces of the plane were still on trees, which could fall at any time, posing a danger to search and rescue workers.
The Russian Sukhoi Superjet 100 with 45 passengers on board disappeared from radar at 2:33 a.m. on May 9, and a rescue helicopter found the crash site at 9:15 a.m. on May 10. Those killed in the accident included 45 passengers and 5 crew members, including 8 Russians, 2 Italians, one French and one American, and the rest were Indonesians.
