For many years, Mr. Hoang Van Duong's family in Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district has had to use rainwater for daily activities. (Baonghean)For many years, Mr. Hoang Van Duong's family in Dien Bich commune, Dien Chau district has had to use rainwater for daily activities. To store water, his family built a large tank to store rainwater that can be used for 1-2 months. The demand for water is very high, so even though the tank can store a large volume, it does not always rain regularly to have water for use.

Mr. Duong said: “Previously, families living in this area used water from Dien Chau water plant, but recently, this water source has become salty, so water for daily activities, especially cooking and bathing, must be used with rainwater. During the dry season, water is scarce and must be used very sparingly, but there is no other source of fresh water to use.”

Workers operate equipment at Dien Chau Water Plant.

Dien Chau Water Plant located in Ngoc Tan hamlet, Dien Ngoc commune has always used water from Bung river, through purification treatment, and a pipeline system to bring fresh water to people's homes. The water plant serves Dien Phuc, Dien Thanh, Town, Dien Ngoc, Dien Bich, Dien Ky communes and agencies located in the district, Thap - Hong - Ky Industrial Cluster.

During the dry season, due to the influence of high tides, the Bung River irrigation system is contaminated with salt. To avoid taking contaminated water, the unit has the initiative to take water from the surface using siphon pipes. When the water rises, the pipe rises, when the water falls, the pipe falls. If the salinity is too high, rafts must be raised, water must not be allowed into the lake, only water from the lake must be used. However, this is only a temporary solution to temporarily supply water to the people in the area. Every year, the factory replaces 2 rafts, however, the water quality is not guaranteed, and within half a year, saline water must be used.

Mr. Truong Van Hai - Director of Dien Chau Water Plant said: "The long-term solution is to change the water source, have an investment project to build a new water pipeline system to take water from the N8 canal of the agricultural system and a raw water pipeline about 6km long to the treatment plant to provide fresh water for people in the coastal area of Dien Chau.
