According to Ms. LTP (born in 1990, K's mother), her son usually loves to eat dumplings, and when he eats, K. only eats the skin. Ms. X. added that the dumpling she bought from a street vendor was still hot, and had an egg filling.
Mrs. X. confirmed that in the afternoon, the two of them only ate this bun, and at noon, they ate rice bought by K.'s father and drank bottled water from the hotel. However, K.'s father also ate rice and drank water here and showed no unusual symptoms.
“On the morning of September 16, I heard from my relatives that my grandchild had died, so I panicked and ran out of the hospital to visit him.”, Mrs. X informed.
Notably, this hotel was also the place where a tourist family from Nghe An stayed. And also on September 15, this family of three had to be hospitalized for suspected poisoning. After that, the mother and her young child died while the husband is still in critical condition.
The child's condition worsened rapidly and he died a few hours after being admitted to the hospital.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Nguyen Van Thuyen, Deputy Director of Son Tra District Medical Center, said that Ms. X. and her grandchild K. were brought to the hospital at 7:00 p.m. on September 15.
When admitted to the hospital, K.'s symptoms were relatively severe, with continuous vomiting, so Son Tra District Medical Center urgently transferred him to Da Nang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital.
Ms. NTX was recorded to have mild digestive disorders and was transferred to the Center's Internal Medicine Department for treatment.
Doctor Tran Thi Hoang, Deputy Director of Da Nang Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, confirmed that the hospital received K., who was transferred from Son Tra District Medical Center. Through initial examination, the doctor on duty determined that K. had acute gastroenteritis.
“When admitted to the hospital, K. showed no signs of serious illness or dehydration. The doctor also performed a blood test, and the results were within acceptable limits. Around 10-11pm the same day, the nurse checked and found that K. had been able to drink a little milk.
At 1am, the baby suddenly became weak and had difficulty breathing, so he was resuscitated. At this time, the doctor discovered that milk had flowed into the endotracheal tube. After about an hour of resuscitation, K. died," said Dr. Hoang.
Doctor Hoang said that damage to the child's stomach lining can be caused by viruses and bacteria. These factors all come through the digestive tract, food through the hands and mouth.
“Acute gastroenteritis is very common in children under 5 years old, with more than a dozen cases hospitalized here every day. However, rapid progression of the disease and death like K.’s case is rare,” said Dr. Hoang.
According to VietNamNet's observation this morning, Hotel H. in Da Nang has hung a sign saying it has stopped serving guests. According to a source from the authorities, this hotel has been temporarily closed.
In another development, NMK's relatives informed that after the child's death, local police also came to the house to record information.
