Festival opening in Muong Chieng Ngam land
(Baonghean.vn) - This morning, February 13, Quy Chau district solemnly held the opening ceremony of the Hang Bua Festival 2012. The Hang Bua Festival is held annually and is an event of profound significance to the cultural and spiritual life of the people here.
Attending the ceremony were comrade To Hong Hai - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department; Representatives of departments, branches and sectors of Nghe An province; Delegation of Tra Bong district, Tay Tra district (Quang Ngai); Nhu Thanh, Nhu Xuan, Thuong Xuan districts (Thanh Hoa); representatives of districts, towns, along with a large number of tourists from all directions and ethnic people of Quy Chau district and other districts in the province.
Hang Bua is located in the Pha En mountain range in Hong Tien village, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district. It is a natural landscape associated with historical legends, customs, habits, and cultural activities of the Thai people - a place that preserves myths with the story of the Mountain God (Phi - Nu_Pha - Hung) and the Water God (Phi - Nam_Huoi Ha) fighting. Hang Bua is also associated with other famous historical and cultural relics in the region such as Tham Om, Ton That, Tham Chang, the Bo Dang battle of Le Loi's insurgents, Moong wharf of the insurgents of Doc Binh Lang Van Thiet... In 1937, King Bao Dai came here to visit. In 1997, Hang Bua was recognized as a National scenic relic by the Ministry of Culture and Information (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports & Tourism).
In the cultural life of the Thai people in Quy Chau, Hang Bua is a sacred place, associated with major festivals of the community every spring; Hang Bua Festival originates from the custom of worshiping "mother water"; held since ancient times, always a flow with strong vitality, deeply rooted in the soul of every Quy Chau resident. The festival has unique features containing traditional folk culture imbued with national identity. Hang Bua Festival is a rendezvous for love couples along with typical sports. The ceremonies are held at the temple of Thanh Hoang Muong Chieng Ngam to remember the merits of the ancestors who founded Muong Xieu Bo, Xieu Ke, Xieu Luong.
For many reasons, the Hang Bua Festival had to be temporarily suspended. In 1996, the Hang Bua Festival was restored and has been continuously organized by Quy Chau district since then. Preserving the meanings and values of an ancient traditional folk festival, the Hang Bua Festival is still held today with many rich festival activities; The Hang Bua Festival in 2012 consists of 2 parts: the ceremony at Muong Chieng Nam temple including the Opening Ceremony, the Fish Offering Ceremony, the Great Offering Ceremony and the Thanksgiving Ceremony. …
This morning, after the spiritual ceremony at the temple of Thanh Hoang Chieng Ngam, which was performed according to the traditional customs of the Thai ethnic group with the presiding priest, at Hang Bua, the Hang Festival was officially opened by Quy Chau district; the opening ceremony showed the sincerity and respect for the origin of the national cultural identity and the friendship between near and far, joining hands in love; creating a new atmosphere of construction and development.
Right after the drumbeats and the bustling gong rhythms, there were cultural programs, singing, bamboo dancing, carving, gongs; culinary culture competition; beautiful camping competition; Thai writing competition; Cham competition, wine performance combined with Nhuon Xuoi singing between traditional cultural clubs; flat embroidery and spinning contest; incense rolling contest; ethnic costume performance, Hang Bua Beauty Contest and campfire. Sports activities including volleyball, football, crossbow shooting, stick pushing, tug of war, ring-jumping, swinging, playing To Le, walking on stilts, throwing con... took place enthusiastically with the participation of many people and tourists.
