Opening of Boao Forum 2015

Chinese President Xi Jinping and 13 heads of state and government attended the opening session.

With the theme “Asia’s New Future: Towards a Community of Common Destiny”, this morning (March 28), the 2015 Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference opened in Boao town, Hainan province, China.

Speaking at the opening session, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the world economic situation is still facing many difficulties and challenges, with low growth, low inflation, low demand, high unemployment, high debt, large bubble risks, continued divergence in trends and policies of major economies, lurking uncertain factors in the economic environment, and increasing non-traditional security issues and global challenges.

To move towards a community of common destiny, we must persevere in win-win cooperation, develop together, maintain common security in the region, and constantly exchange and learn from experiences among different civilizations.

Xi Jinping also emphasized the cooperation between ASEAN and China as well as between ASEAN and countries in the East Asian region: “China and ASEAN countries are urgently building a community with a common destiny, especially accelerating regional connectivity, striving to complete negotiations on upgrading the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area this year. ASEAN, China, Japan and South Korea are working hard to build an East Asian Economic Community by 2020, including coordinating to promote cross-regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.”

ASEAN Community Dialogue

At this year's forum, in addition to focusing on discussing cooperation in the fields of security, politics and economics, issues related to social life such as food safety, the relationship between epidemics and humans, dust pollution and health, generational transfer and family heritage, etc. will also be discussed.

Established in 2001, the Boao Forum for Asia is a non-governmental forum held annually in Boao, Hainan Province, China, to discuss the year's major economic and political issues and to seek solutions to the security, political and economic issues that Asia will face in the coming time.
