Opening of the Return to the Source Cycling Race
This is the tournament to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Uncle Ho's departure to find a way to save the country and the 121st anniversary of his birth.
On the morning of May 15, the Return to the Source Cycling Race opened at Hoan Kiem Lake - Hanoi, witnessed by a large number of people in the capital.
The tournament has the participation of 72 cyclists from 12 best racing teams in the country. The cyclists will compete in 4 long-distance races with a total length of more than 430 km, passing through many historical sites of the localities of Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Bac Can, Cao Bang with the final destination in front of Uncle Ho's monument in Cao Bang town at noon on May 19.
After the opening ceremony, the cyclists entered the scoring stage at Hoan Kiem Lake (Hanoi). The cool weather combined with the beautiful race track made it easy for the cyclists to complete the 51km course including 30 laps around Hoan Kiem Lake.
As a result, racer Le Van Duan of the Saigon 1 Plant Protection Team finished first and kept the yellow jersey. Runner-up was racer Nguyen Truong Tai of the Domesco Dong Thap 1 Team.
Cyclist Ho Huynh Van An of the An Giang Plant Protection Team, who finished third, said: “I feel very happy to finish third in this first race. That is thanks to the guidance of the coaching staff, along with the help of my teammates. I feel that the tournament has been very well prepared, this first race is relatively easy compared to the next races. I believe I will do well in the remaining races.”
Tomorrow (May 16), the cyclists will enter the second stage with the route: Hanoi - Vinh Phuc - Viet Tri, 80km long, departing from the gate of My Dinh National Stadium.
