Opening of the 30th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting
The 30th ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM 30) opened on the morning of September 12 in Phnom Penh, the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Conference overview
With the theme “Green Connectivity ASEAN”, the conference focused on discussing measures to efficiently use energy resources of member countries; connecting power grids and green energy in ASEAN. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Le Duong Quang attending this conference.
In his opening speech, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen highly appreciated the theme and practical content of the conference. He said that ensuring energy security plays an essential role in economic and social development while ASEAN countries are moving towards building an ASEAN Community by 2015.
According to Prime Minister Hun Sen, energy production for development must be associated with the effective use of natural resources, while ensuring the ecological environment to build a sustainably developed ASEAN.
The 30th ASEAN Energy Ministers Meeting discussed issues of energy connectivity within the bloc, enhancing energy efficiency of member countries; assessing the implementation of agreements committed at previous conferences; discussing strengthening cooperation within the bloc and with partners in the energy sector.
Delegates focused on the main contents of the ASEAN Action Plan on Energy Cooperation 2010-2015, including grid connection; renewable energy and energy conservation; regional energy policy development and civil nuclear energy.
At this conference, ASEAN energy leaders also had meetings with energy officials from Japan, China, and South Korea; attended the 6th East Asia Energy Ministers Summit; and had a dialogue with the US-ASEAN Business Council./.
