Opening of Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields Cultural Week

On the evening of September 13, at the center of Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province, the opening ceremony of the “2015 Mu Cang Chai Terraced Fields National Scenic Landscape Culture and Tourism Week” officially opened with the theme “Golden season on the mountain”. The ceremony attracted a large number of tourists and people of all ethnic groups in the district to attend.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the art program and performance of Mong flute, imbued with the cultural identity of ethnic minorities, attracted a large number of tourists and people to watch and cheer.

The majestic beauty of Mu Cang Chai highlands (Yen Bai) with the typical feature of Terraced Fields Heritage.

Within the framework of the Cultural Week, many special activities were organized such as: The first district-level Mong flute competition; paragliding competition at Khau Pha Pass; Highland Market; documentary film screening program introducing Yen Bai tourism images, screening films about the history and culture of ethnic groups in the district; photo exhibition "Mu Cang Chai - the golden steps"; eco-tourism tours, community tourism.

In particular, for the first time, Mu Cang Chai district organized a goat fighting competition at the Mo Waterfall tourist site. The goat fighting competition is the highlight of this year's festival, held in the downstream area of ​​Nam Mo stream, attracting the participation of goat owners from many districts in and outside the province, contributing to further portraying the culture of ethnic minorities in the mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai. Along with that, the highland market with more than 16 booths displays and sells local products such as H'Mong sticky rice cakes; H'Mong traditional medicine; agricultural products; groceries. The market is also a place to demonstrate some typical traditional crafts such as: Forging, brocade weaving, weaving, wine making, etc.

According to the Organizing Committee, the Cultural Week is part of a series of cultural and tourism activities in the Western region of the province; implementing the Project "Developing tourism, trade and services associated with the National Landscape of Terraced Fields and the National Historical Relic where the Khau Pha Guerrilla Team was established" and the Project "Preserving and promoting the traditional cultural identity of the Mong ethnic group in Mu Cang Chai district. This is also an opportunity to honor the landscape, raise awareness of preserving and promoting the value of historical relics associated with tourism development; promote and introduce the homeland, people, potential strengths, and cultural identity of ethnic groups in Mu Cang Chai district to domestic and foreign tourists.
