On the morning of April 5, in the ancient capital of Almaty, Kazakhstan, a new round of negotiations between the P5+1 Group (including the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council: Russia, China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Germany) and Iran opened to find a solution to Tehran's nuclear program.

Participating in this round of negotiations were the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Ms. Catherine Ashton, Secretary of Iran's Supreme Security Council, Mr. Saeed Jalili, and diplomatic representatives of the P5+1 Group. Russia and the US sent Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov and Deputy Foreign Minister Wendi Sherman to attend.

At the previous round of negotiations also held in Almaty on February 26-27, the P5+1 group proposed that Iran limit its nuclear enrichment activities to below 20% in exchange for the international easing of economic sanctions against Tehran.

At this round of negotiations, representatives of the 5+1 Group want to receive a specific and constructive response from Iran to the above proposal. EU High Representative Aston stated that she hopes for a positive response from Iran and concrete results from this round of negotiations.

Meanwhile, Secretary of Iran's Supreme Security Council Jalili stated that Iran wants the international community to recognize Tehran's right to enrich uranium as well as its right to carry out a nuclear research program for peaceful purposes.

In that context, public opinion assesses that at the new round of negotiations in Almaty, the P5+1 Group and Iran will find it difficult to reach a mutually acceptable agreement in the direction of Tehran limiting or stopping its controversial nuclear program./.
